MTN Rwanda provides the widest 4G LTE coverage. Kigali is excellently covered. Musanze (gorilla trekking gateway) and Gisenyi (Lake Kivu) have good 4G. The Volcanoes National Park lower zones have signal; the gorilla tracking routes in the high-altitude bamboo forest are remote with no signal. Nyungwe Forest rainforest interior has limited coverage.

How much does gorilla trekking cost in Rwanda?
A gorilla trekking permit in Volcanoes National Park costs USD $1,500 per person (2024). This is deliberately high to limit visitor numbers and fund conservation. Each gorilla family group is visited by a maximum of 8 people for 1 hour.
Why is Kigali so clean?
Rwanda banned plastic bags in 2008 — one of the first countries globally to do so. The country has mandatory community clean-up days (Umuganda) on the last Saturday of each month. The result is one of Africa's most well-maintained capitals.
Is it safe to visit Rwanda?
Rwanda is consistently ranked among Africa's safest countries for visitors. Kigali's crime rate is very low. Solo female travel is considered safe. The country has strict rules against carrying plastic bags — leave them in your luggage at the airport.
What currency does Rwanda use?
The Rwandan franc (RWF). USD is widely accepted in hotels, gorilla permit payments, and tourist businesses. ATMs in Kigali dispense RWF. Card payments are accepted at major Kigali restaurants and hotels.

How long is the eSIM valid for?
You have 6 months from your purchase date to activate the eSIM. Once activated, the plan validity period (e.g., 7 days, 30 days) begins counting down.
Will the eSIM work at the airport when I land?
Yes — as long as you installed the eSIM before your flight, it activates automatically when your phone connects to a local network on landing. No Wi-Fi required for activation.
What if the QR code doesn't scan?
If the QR code won't scan, you can enter the activation code manually — we include both in the email. You can also contact our 24/7 support team and we'll resend or manually provision your eSIM.
