AT&T Day Pass vs eSIM: the short answer
AT&T International Day Pass costs $12 per day for your line ($6 for each extra line used the same day), and AT&T stops charging after 10 days per bill cycle, so a two-week trip costs $120 per person. A 10 GB travel eSIM for Japan, the UK, Italy or France costs $11.75 at Flysimio and covers 30 days. For trips longer than one or two days, an eSIM is usually 80–90% cheaper. The Day Pass wins only when you need your US number for calls on a very short trip, or when your AT&T plan already includes the country (Mexico and Canada on many AT&T unlimited plans).

Across 3 providers and 11 plans compared in October 2026, the cheapest Italy eSIM data on a standard 3–50 GB plan works out at $0.85/GB (Flysimio, priced live). Every other provider in this market sells unlimited-data passes rather than fixed-data plans, so there is no competing price per gigabyte to rank against.

How this table is priced. Flysimio prices are read live from our carrier catalog every time this page loads, so the figure here is the figure at checkout. Competitor prices are the US-dollar price shown on each provider's own site, read on the date in the last column and linked to the page we read it from; promotional prices are marked alongside the list price. Price per GB is the plan price divided by its included data — unlimited passes have no per-GB figure and are ranked by total price instead. How AT&T International Day Pass works
- You are charged $12 for each 24-hour period in which you use your phone in one of 210+ included destinations. A text, a call or any data use starts the day.
- Each additional line on your account that is used on the same day costs $6.
- On land, AT&T charges at most 10 daily fees per line per bill cycle, after which the rest of that cycle is free.
- On a cruise ship the rate is $20 per day per line, with no cap and no discount for extra lines.
- You need an eligible AT&T unlimited postpaid plan; prepaid customers cannot add it.
- You keep your US number for calls and texts, which is the one thing an eSIM does not replace.
When the Day Pass is the better choice
- Mexico and Canada: many AT&T unlimited plans already include them at no extra cost, so check your plan before buying anything.
- A one- or two-day trip where you mostly need calls and texts on your US number.
- A cruise, where most travel eSIMs have no coverage on the ship itself.
- A phone that is still carrier-locked and cannot take a second eSIM.
Keep your AT&T number and use an eSIM for data
You do not have to choose. Every iPhone from the XS onward and most Android phones since 2020 run two lines at once. Install a Flysimio eSIM for data, set it as your cellular-data line, and leave your AT&T line on for calls and texts, with data roaming switched off for the AT&T line only. WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime keep working over the eSIM data, and AT&T only charges the Day Pass if the AT&T line itself is used, so turn off "Allow Cellular Data Switching" on iPhone to stop the phone falling back to it.
Check your phone is unlocked
Any phone bought outright or paid off with AT&T can be unlocked free at att.com/deviceunlock. A locked phone cannot add a second eSIM.
Buy and install the eSIM at home
Choose your destination plan, scan the QR code on Wi-Fi before you fly, and label the new line "Travel".
Set the eSIM as your data line
Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → Travel. Turn on Data Roaming for the Travel line only.
Stop AT&T data from switching on
Turn off Data Roaming on the AT&T line and turn off "Allow Cellular Data Switching" so no AT&T data is used and no Day Pass is triggered by data.
Frequently asked questions
How much is AT&T International Day Pass in 2026?
$12 per day for the line using it and $6 per day for each additional line used the same day, in 210+ destinations. AT&T charges a maximum of 10 daily fees per line per bill cycle on land. At sea it is $20 per day with no cap.
Is an eSIM cheaper than AT&T International Day Pass?
For almost any trip over two days, yes. Two weeks on the Day Pass costs $120 per person; a 10 GB Flysimio eSIM for Japan, the UK, Italy or France costs $11.75 for 30 days.
Will I keep my AT&T number if I use an eSIM?
Yes. The eSIM runs as a second line for data while your AT&T line stays active for calls and texts. Keep data roaming off on the AT&T line so the Day Pass is not triggered by data.
Does AT&T Day Pass work in Mexico and Canada?
It does, but many AT&T unlimited plans already include Mexico and Canada at no extra charge, so check your plan first.
Does the AT&T Day Pass work on a cruise?
Yes, at $20 per day per line with no cap. Most travel eSIMs, including Flysimio, do not cover ships at sea, so the Day Pass is the better option for sea days.
