Verizon TravelPass vs eSIM: the short answer
Verizon TravelPass costs $12 per line per day in most countries and $6 per day in Mexico and Canada, charged for each day you use your phone abroad. Two weeks in Europe or Japan comes to $168 per person. A 10 GB Flysimio eSIM for Japan, the UK, Italy or France costs $11.75 for 30 days, and a 10 GB Europe regional eSIM covering 35 countries costs $14.18. Outside Mexico and Canada, an eSIM is about 90% cheaper for any trip over two days. In Mexico and Canada the gap is much smaller, and for a short trip TravelPass can be the simpler choice.

How this table is priced. Flysimio prices are read live from our carrier catalog every time this page loads, so the figure here is the figure at checkout. Competitor prices are the US-dollar price shown on each provider's own site, read on the date in the last column and linked to the page we read it from; promotional prices are marked alongside the list price. Price per GB is the plan price divided by its included data — unlimited passes have no per-GB figure and are ranked by total price instead. When TravelPass is the better choice
- Short trips to Mexico or Canada, where TravelPass is $6 a day and calls on your US number are included.
- You have the Verizon TravelPass perk and your trip is three days or fewer.
- You need to make calls on your US number all day, not just receive texts.
- Your phone is locked to Verizon and cannot add a second eSIM.
Keep your Verizon number and use an eSIM for data
TravelPass is charged on any day your Verizon line is used abroad, including for data. To use an eSIM for data and keep your Verizon number reachable without paying for TravelPass, set the eSIM as your cellular-data line, turn off Data Roaming on the Verizon line, and turn off "Allow Cellular Data Switching" on iPhone. Incoming calls and texts on your Verizon line may still start a TravelPass day, so check Verizon's rules for your plan, or use Wi-Fi calling where your plan supports it.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Verizon TravelPass in 2026?
$12 per line per day in most TravelPass countries and $6 per day in Mexico and Canada, charged only on days you use your phone abroad, according to Verizon in October 2026.
Is an eSIM cheaper than Verizon TravelPass?
Outside Mexico and Canada, yes, by about 90% on any trip over two days: two weeks on TravelPass is $168, while a 10 GB Flysimio eSIM for the UK, Italy, Japan or France is $11.75.
Can I use a travel eSIM on a Verizon phone?
Yes, once the phone is unlocked; check your unlock status in the My Verizon app. The eSIM runs as a second line for data while your Verizon line keeps your number.
Will Verizon charge TravelPass if I use an eSIM for data?
Not for data, as long as data roaming is off on the Verizon line. A call or text on your Verizon line abroad can still start a TravelPass day, so check your plan.
