Ciudad del Este (border trading city with Brazil/Argentina) has 4G. The Jesuit Missions: Jesús de Tavarangue, Santísima Trinidad de Paraná (UNESCO) have 4G on the access roads. Pilar (southern Paraguay) has 4G. Encarnación and the border crossing to Argentina (Posadas) have 4G. The Pantanal area near Puerto Vallemi has 3G. The Chaco highway west of Asunción has 4G for the first 200 km; the deep Chaco desert is largely without signal.

FAQ

Questions about Paraguay

Does this eSIM work in Asunción?

Yes. Asunción's city centre, riverfront Costanera, and main commercial districts all have solid 4G/5G.

Is there coverage at the Jesuit Missions (UNESCO)?

Yes. Trinidad and Jesús de Tavarangue UNESCO ruins have 4G on the access roads. The ruins themselves have 3G/4G depending on signal strength.

Does the eSIM work in Ciudad del Este?

Yes. Ciudad del Este — famous for electronics and import shopping — has solid 4G. The Itaipú Dam visitor area has 4G.

What language do Paraguayans speak?

Paraguay is bilingual: Spanish and Guaraní are both official languages. Guaraní is spoken by approximately 90% of the population and is unusual in being the only indigenous language that is an official language of a country where most of the population is not indigenous.

What currency does Paraguay use?

Paraguayan guaraní (PYG). USD is sometimes accepted in commercial areas. ATMs in Asunción dispense guaraní.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into your phone. Instead of a physical card, you scan a QR code and your plan installs instantly — no SIM tray needed.

Is my phone eSIM-compatible?

iPhone XS (2018) and newer, most Android flagships from 2020+, and all Samsung Galaxy S21+ devices support eSIM. Check our compatibility page for the full device list.

How do I install the eSIM?

After purchase, we email a QR code. On iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Scan QR Code. On Android: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM. The whole process takes under 60 seconds.

Can I keep my regular SIM while using this eSIM?

Yes. Most phones support dual SIM (physical + eSIM). Keep your home number for calls and SMS — use Flysimio for data abroad. You control which SIM handles what in your phone Settings.

Does the eSIM include a hotspot (tethering)?

Yes, all Flysimio plans include mobile hotspot at no extra charge. Share your data connection with laptops, tablets, or other devices freely.

What happens when my data runs out?

You can top up data from your account dashboard at any time. Top-ups are applied instantly — no need to buy a new eSIM or wait.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. We offer a full refund within 7 days of purchase. Contact contact@flysimio.com with your order number.

How long is the eSIM valid for?

You have 6 months from your purchase date to activate the eSIM. Once activated, the plan validity period (e.g., 7 days, 30 days) begins counting down.

Will the eSIM work at the airport when I land?

Yes — as long as you installed the eSIM before your flight, it activates automatically when your phone connects to a local network on landing. No Wi-Fi required for activation.

What if the QR code doesn't scan?

If the QR code won't scan, you can enter the activation code manually — we include both in the email. You can also contact our 24/7 support team and we'll resend or manually provision your eSIM.

Best eSIM for travel to Paraguay

Paraguay is one of the least-visited countries in South America, and almost nobody writes honestly about connectivity here — so here is the short version: it is better than you expect. Flysimio runs on Claro, alongside Paraguay's two largest operators Tigo and Personal, covering Asunción, Ciudad del Este, Encarnación and the Jesuit missions circuit. Coverage follows the population, which means the eastern half of the country is well served while the Chaco to the west is largely empty of both people and signal. Plans are prepaid with no contract, your QR code arrives by email within seconds, every plan includes free mobile hotspot, and our 1 GB / 7-day Paraguay plan is the cheapest short-trip option of any South American country we cover.

How to set up a Paraguay eSIM (step by step)

Getting online in Paraguay takes about two minutes. Confirm your phone supports eSIM — iPhone XS (2018) and newer and most Android flagships from 2020 qualify. Choose your Paraguay plan on Flysimio and pay with card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay; your QR code arrives by email within seconds. On Wi-Fi before you fly, open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM (iPhone) or Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (Android) and scan it. When you land at Silvio Pettirossi in Asunción, switch the Flysimio line on and turn on Data Roaming for that line only. If you're crossing overland from Argentina at Encarnación or Brazil at Ciudad del Este, switch it on once you're clear of the border — see the note below on tri-border network switching.

How much data do you need in Paraguay?

A week covering Asunción and the Jesuit missions runs 2–3 GB for most travellers, so a 3 GB plan is the natural choice and 5 GB covers a fortnight comfortably. The one itinerary that needs different planning is the Chaco. Beyond the Mennonite colonies at Filadelfia and Loma Plata, the Ruta Transchaco runs hundreds of kilometres through dry scrub with almost no settlement, no reliable fuel and no signal — coverage extends roughly 200 km west of Asunción and then stops. Download offline maps, carry water, and do not treat a phone as a safety plan. For most visitors the Chaco is a deliberate expedition rather than a casual side trip.

Using a Paraguay eSIM on iPhone and Android

Flysimio runs as a second line beside your usual SIM, so you keep your home number for calls and texts while your Paraguayan data flows over the eSIM — standard dual-SIM behaviour on iPhone XS and later and most Android phones from 2018. Set the Flysimio eSIM as your cellular-data line and turn on Data Roaming for that line only. One Paraguay-specific warning: at Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina meet within a few kilometres, and phones near a border routinely latch onto whichever tower is strongest — which may be across it. A Paraguay-only plan stops working the moment your phone registers on a Brazilian or Argentine network, so if your trip includes Iguazú Falls (which sit on the Argentine and Brazilian sides, not the Paraguayan one), a South America regional plan is the simpler answer.

Hotspot, calls, and texts on a Paraguay data eSIM

Every Flysimio Paraguay plan includes mobile hotspot at no extra cost and without throttling, so you can tether a laptop or share with a travel companion. As a data-only eSIM it has no Paraguayan phone number, but WhatsApp is the default for messaging across Paraguay — including for guesthouses and drivers on the missions circuit — and FaceTime and Google Meet handle calls over data. Your home number stays reachable on your primary SIM. Worth knowing culturally: Paraguay is genuinely bilingual, with Guaraní spoken by around 90% of the population alongside Spanish, so a translation app with offline packs for both is a better use of your data allowance than most things.

Short Paraguay trips vs. long stays

For a few days in Asunción or a quick stop en route between Argentina and Brazil, the 1 GB / 7-day plan is the cheapest sensible option we sell anywhere on the continent. For a longer trip taking in Encarnación, the Trinidad and Jesús de Tavarangue missions, and the southern river towns, a 3 GB or 5 GB plan is comfortable. Because Flysimio gives you six months to activate, you can buy before you leave and validity only starts when your eSIM first connects in Paraguay. If your route crosses into Brazil or Argentina at any point, compare a South America regional plan before buying country plans separately.
