Paraguay is one of the least-visited countries in South America, and almost nobody writes honestly about connectivity here — so here is the short version: it is better than you expect. Getting online in Paraguay takes about two minutes. Confirm your phone supports eSIM — iPhone XS (2018) and newer and most Android flagships from 2020 qualify. Choose your Paraguay plan on Flysimio and pay with card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay; your QR code arrives by email within seconds. On Wi-Fi before you fly, open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM (iPhone) or Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (Android) and scan it. A week covering Asunción and the Jesuit missions runs 2–3 GB for most travellers, so a 3 GB plan is the natural choice and 5 GB covers a fortnight comfortably. The one itinerary that needs different planning is the Chaco. Beyond the Mennonite colonies at Filadelfia and Loma Plata, the Ruta Transchaco runs hundreds of kilometres through dry scrub with almost no settlement, no reliable fuel and no signal — coverage extends roughly 200 km west of Asunción and then stops. Download offline maps, carry water, and do not treat a phone as a safety plan. For most visitors the Chaco is a deliberate expedition rather than a casual side trip.

Flysimio runs as a second line beside your usual SIM, so you keep your home number for calls and texts while your Paraguayan data flows over the eSIM — standard dual-SIM behaviour on iPhone XS and later and most Android phones from 2018. Set the Flysimio eSIM as your cellular-data line and turn on Data Roaming for that line only. One Paraguay-specific warning: at Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina meet within a few kilometres, and phones near a border routinely latch onto whichever tower is strongest — which may be across it. A Paraguay-only plan stops working the moment your phone registers on a Brazilian or Argentine network, so if your trip includes Iguazú Falls (which sit on the Argentine and Brazilian sides, not the Paraguayan one), a South America regional plan is the simpler answer.

As a data-only eSIM it has no Paraguayan phone number, but WhatsApp is the default for messaging across Paraguay — including for guesthouses and drivers on the missions circuit — and FaceTime and Google Meet handle calls over data. Worth knowing culturally: Paraguay is genuinely bilingual, with Guaraní spoken by around 90% of the population alongside Spanish, so a translation app with offline packs for both is a better use of your data allowance than most things.

For a few days in Asunción or a quick stop en route between Argentina and Brazil, the 1 GB / 7-day plan is the cheapest sensible option we sell anywhere on the continent.
