The 60-second verdict
Flysimio sells 5 GB for 30 days in Serbia at $9.55 on Telenor. Airalo's cheapest 30-day Serbia plan is $95.00 — nearly ten times the price — because they sell the country as unlimited-only. For a few days in Belgrade, our 1 GB / 7-day plan at $2.15 covers it.
The thing most guides miss about Serbia: it is not in the EU, so EU roam-like-at-home allowances do not apply. If you are driving down from Hungary or Croatia on a European SIM, your data stops being free at the border.

Serbia's networks
Telekom Srbija, Telenor Serbia and A1 Serbia are the three operators. Telekom Srbija has the widest rural and national road coverage; Telenor, which we route through, is strong across Belgrade, Novi Sad and the main corridors. 5G is live in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
Coverage by destination
- Belgrade — solid 4G and 5G across the centre, Kalemegdan Fortress and the Savamala district. Nikola Tesla airport is covered.
- Novi Sad — 4G/5G including Petrovaradin Fortress, the EXIT festival site.
- Zlatibor — 4G in the resort village.
- Tara National Park — 4G around Kaludjerske Bare; thinner on the forest trails.
- Kopaonik — Serbia's main ski resort, covered in the resort area.
- Đavolja Varoš and the southern back roads — patchy. Download offline maps if you are driving.
The EU roaming trap
Serbia sits at a crossroads — Hungary to the north, Croatia and Bosnia to the west, Bulgaria and North Macedonia to the south — and it is the only one of those in that list not covered by EU roam-like-at-home rules (along with Bosnia and North Macedonia). Cross into Serbia on a European SIM and you revert to non-EU roaming rates, which are typically many times higher. A local eSIM avoids it entirely.
Serbia has taken part in regional "Roam Like At Home" arrangements with other Western Balkan countries, but those apply to local operators rather than to your EU SIM. Do not assume your European plan is covered.
How much data do you need?
A week between Belgrade and Novi Sad runs 2–3 GB for most travellers. Buy 3 GB at $6.10 for a week or 5 GB at $9.55 for a fortnight taking in the mountains.
Setting it up
- Buy and install on Wi-Fi before you travel.
- If you are driving or taking the bus in from Hungary, Croatia or Bulgaria, switch the Serbian line on before you cross.
- Enable Data Roaming for the travel line only, and turn it off on your home line.
- Download offline maps if you are heading to Tara or the southern back roads.
- Serbia uses the dinar, not the euro — euros are sometimes accepted in tourist areas but at poor rates.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best eSIM for Serbia?
Flysimio on Telenor — 5 GB for 30 days is $9.55 against $95.00 for Airalo's cheapest 30-day Serbia plan, which is unlimited-only. For a short Belgrade trip the 1 GB / 7-day plan at $2.15 is usually enough.
Does EU roaming work in Serbia?
No. Serbia is not in the EU, so roam-like-at-home allowances from an EU SIM do not apply and you revert to non-EU roaming rates. This catches out travellers driving in from Hungary or Croatia. A local eSIM avoids it.
Is there 5G in Serbia?
Yes, in Belgrade and Novi Sad. The rest of the country is well covered on 4G, including the main road corridors and the Zlatibor and Kopaonik resort areas.
How much data do I need for Serbia?
About 2–3 GB for a week between Belgrade and Novi Sad. A 3 GB plan at $6.10 suits most week-long trips; 5 GB at $9.55 covers a fortnight including the mountains.
Does Serbia use the euro?
No. Serbia uses the Serbian dinar (RSD). Euros are sometimes accepted in tourist areas but the exchange rate is usually poor, and dinar is preferred everywhere.
