The 60-second verdict

Note: Competitor prices on this page were last verified in June 2026 and are shown as recorded on that date — they are not live, and several providers have changed their pricing since. Flysimio prices here are always read live from our catalogue. We re-verify every competitor figure monthly for the destinations covered by our eSIM Price Index; this destination is not in that set yet.

Flysimio sells 5 GB for 30 days in Sweden at $8.50, with access to Telia, Telenor and 3 — three of the strongest networks in Europe. Airalo's cheapest 30-day Sweden plan is $69.00 and is unlimited-only. For a normal trip the fixed allowance is an eighth of the price on comparable networks.

Sweden is also close to cashless. Card and Swish are accepted almost everywhere and some places refuse cash outright, which makes a working data connection more practical than in most countries.

Sweden's networks

Telia, Telenor, Tele2 and 3 all operate in Sweden, and coverage is excellent across the populated south and the coastal strip. Above the Arctic Circle it becomes a road-and-settlement story: the E10 and the towns along it are covered, the wilderness between them is not. Telia generally has the widest northern footprint.

Swedish Lapland and aurora season

Aurora season runs roughly September to March, with the darkest, most reliable months being December to February. The main bases all have solid coverage:

  • Kiruna and Abisko — covered, including Abisko village and the station area. Abisko is famous for its "blue hole" microclimate and is the single most reliable aurora spot in Sweden.
  • Jukkasjärvi and the Icehotel — covered.
  • Luleå and Swedish Lapland's coast — good.
  • Sarek and Padjelanta national parks — no meaningful coverage. These are serious wilderness; do not treat a phone as a safety plan.
  • Snowmobile and dog-sled excursions — you will usually leave coverage. Go with an operator and tell someone your route.
Note: Cold is a bigger threat to your phone than coverage. At −25 °C a fully charged phone can shut down within the hour. Keep it in an inside pocket against your body and carry a power bank kept equally warm — a cold power bank will not charge anything.

Coverage by destination

  • Stockholm — excellent 5G including the Tunnelbana and Arlanda airport.
  • Gothenburg and Malmö — strong throughout.
  • Stockholm archipelago — good near the main islands, patchy on longer ferry crossings.
  • Gotland and Visby — solid.
  • The E10 through Lapland — covered along the road, gaps in between.
  • Inland forest and mountain areas — expect nothing. Download offline maps.

How much data do you need?

Swedish public Wi-Fi is fast and everywhere, so a week in Stockholm runs 1–3 GB for most people. Add a Lapland trip with more map use and photo uploads and 5 GB is comfortable. At $8.50 there is little reason to buy smaller.

Setting it up

  1. Buy and install on Wi-Fi before you fly.
  2. Switch the line on at Arlanda and enable Data Roaming for that line only.
  3. Turn Data Roaming off on your home line.
  4. Download offline maps before heading north of Kiruna.
  5. Sweden uses the krona, not the euro — and many places take card only.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Sweden?

Flysimio — 5 GB for 30 days is $8.50 with access to Telia, Telenor and 3, against $69.00 for Airalo's cheapest 30-day Sweden plan, which is unlimited-only. Swedish Wi-Fi is so widespread that a fixed allowance is almost always the right product.

Is there mobile coverage in Swedish Lapland?

Along the roads and in the towns, yes — Kiruna, Abisko, Jukkasjärvi and Luleå are all covered. The wilderness between them, including Sarek and Padjelanta national parks, has no meaningful coverage at all.

Will my phone work for aurora hunting in Abisko?

Yes. Abisko village and the station area have coverage, and Abisko is the most reliable aurora location in Sweden thanks to its unusually clear microclimate. Keep the phone warm — extreme cold shuts phones down faster than anything else.

How much data do I need for Sweden?

About 1–3 GB for a week in Stockholm, or around 5 GB if you add a Lapland trip with heavier map and photo use. Free Wi-Fi is fast and near-universal in Swedish cafés, hotels and transport.

Does Sweden use the euro?

No. Sweden uses the Swedish krona (SEK), and it is one of the most cashless countries in the world — many shops, cafés and museums accept card only and will refuse cash entirely.
