Panama's networks
Panama has consolidated to two main operators: Movistar and +Móvil, the latter being the Cable & Wireless business. Both are solid across Panama City and the Interamericana corridor. Flysimio routes through Movistar. In practice, network choice matters far less in Panama than trip planning does, because the places with bad signal have bad signal on every network.
Coverage by destination
- Panama City — excellent 4G/LTE throughout, including the Cinta Costera, Casco Viejo and Tocumen airport.
- Panama Canal / Miraflores Locks — strong signal, no issues.
- Boquete and the Chiriquí highlands — good in town, patchy on the Quetzal Trail and around Volcán Barú.
- Bocas del Toro — workable on Isla Colón and in Bocas Town; thinner on Bastimentos and Zapatillas, and weak on the water taxis between islands.
- San Blas / Guna Yala — assume no usable data. This is the single biggest thing to plan for; the islands are largely offline and that is part of the appeal.
- Darién — do not rely on any coverage, and do not travel there casually.
How much data do you need?
A week split between Panama City and Bocas runs 2–3 GB for most people. Two weeks including Boquete lands around 5 GB. Because San Blas and much of the highlands are offline anyway, Panama consumes less than its city-heavy itinerary suggests.
