Best eSIM for Greece in August 2026: 4 Providers Compared

Greece eSIM · from $1.43See plans

Visiting Greece? Island coverage varies widely by carrier. We ranked the top Greece eSIM providers for Athens and Aegean island travel in 2026.

Last updated August 2026By Maya Okafor·Senior Travel Connectivity Editor·8 min read

The short verdict

For Greece, Flysimio runs on Vodafone Greece and Wind and was the best value we found — Airalo costs nearly double for comparable data on similar networks. Athens, Thessaloniki, and the major islands (Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu) all have strong 4G/5G, so most trips are well covered. One honest note for serious island-hopping: Cosmote (Deutsche Telekom) has the deepest reach on the smallest Aegean islands like Milos, Naxos, and Folegandros — worth knowing if the tiny islands are the whole point of your trip. For mainland Greece and the popular islands, you're covered at the best price.

How this table is priced. Flysimio prices are read live from our carrier catalog every time this page loads, so the figure here is the figure at checkout. Competitor prices are the US-dollar price shown on each provider's own site, read on the date in the last column and linked to the page we read it from; promotional prices are marked alongside the list price. Price per GB is the plan price divided by its included data — unlimited passes have no per-GB figure and are ranked by total price instead. Staying online on the Aegean ferries

Island-hopping means hours on open water, and this is where every Greek eSIM behaves the same way: mobile signal comes from land-based towers, so it holds near port and along the coast, then fades mid-crossing on longer open-sea routes regardless of carrier. Short hops — Piraeus–Aegina, Santorini–Ios, Mykonos–Paros — keep 4G for most of the ride; long crossings such as Piraeus–Crete, Piraeus–Rhodes, and Piraeus–Milos go dark for stretches in the middle. Download your tickets, maps, and anything you need before you sail.

Note: Ferry rule of thumb: the further from land, the weaker the signal — on any Greek network. On long open-sea crossings, plan to be offline for part of the journey and save your onward directions before boarding.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Greece?

Flysimio is a strong Greece pick in 2026, running on Vodafone Greece and Wind rather than Cosmote — worth knowing if you are island-hopping, because Cosmote has the edge on the smaller Aegean islands. On price we were cheaper than Nomad at 5 GB in August 2026 but Nomad undercuts us per gigabyte on larger plans; the dated index above shows both. Airalo uses the same network but costs nearly double.

Does eSIM work on Greek islands?

Yes, on Cosmote. Cosmote has the best Greek island coverage — including Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, and smaller islands like Milos, Naxos, and Folegandros. Wind and Vodafone have weaker signals on smaller islands.

Does eSIM work in Santorini?

Yes. Santorini has 4G LTE coverage on Cosmote and Vodafone GR throughout Fira, Oia, and Akrotiri. The caldera viewpoints and main villages are well covered. Remote hiking trails on the southern tip may have reduced signal.

Is Holafly good for Greece?

Holafly is a good choice for Athens and major islands but uses the Wind/Nova network, which has weaker signal on smaller Aegean islands. For island-hopping, Cosmote (Flysimio) is the safer choice.

Does a Greece eSIM work on ferries between islands?

At port and close to shore, yes. On open water between islands, eSIM signal depends on distance from land. On short routes (Athens–Aegina, Piraeus–Heraklion), 4G is available for much of the journey. On longer open-sea crossings, signal drops mid-route.

Do I need a Greece SIM card or can I use eSIM?

eSIM is the better choice for most visitors. It is cheaper than airport kiosks, no SIM-swapping required, and your home SIM stays active. The only reason for a physical SIM is if your phone does not support eSIM.
