Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) is an Atlantic archipelago of 10 volcanic islands 570km off the West African coast. Once a Portuguese colonial trading hub, today it's a world-class beach and kitesurfing destination — Sal and Boa Vista have powdery white-sand beaches, while Santo Antão offers dramatic hiking through volcanic landscapes. The islands' morna music, most famously associated with Cesária Évora, is UNESCO-listed.

Coverage & connectivity.
CV Telecom and Unitel T+ provide 4G LTE coverage across all 9 inhabited islands of Cape Verde. **Sal** — the main tourist island — has excellent coverage from Amílcar Cabral International Airport (SID) through the Santa Maria resort strip, Ponta Preta, and Murdeira Bay. Speed-test results in Santa Maria regularly hit 30–60 Mbps on 4G. **Boa Vista** has solid 4G in Sal Rei town and along the main resort beaches (Praia de Chaves, Praia de Santa Mónica). The wilder eastern coast (Ervatão turtle beach) has 4G near the visitor centre. **Santiago** (the largest island) — Praia (RAI airport, downtown Plateau, Achada Santo António) has 5G; Cidade Velha UNESCO site has 4G; rural interior (Serra Malagueta, Tarrafal) maintains 4G in towns. **São Vicente** — Mindelo, Cape Verde's cultural capital, has full 5G coverage. The harbour, Praia da Laginha, Monte Verde viewpoint, and the Mindelo Carnival route are all covered. **Santo Antão** — accessed by ferry from Mindelo, has 4G in Porto Novo, Ribeira Grande, and Ponta do Sol; the dramatic hiking trails through the ribeiras (Cova de Paúl, Ribeira do Paúl, Cha de Igreja) have signal at trailheads and viewpoints but drop in deep ravines. Download offline topo maps. **Fogo** — Pico do Fogo volcano summit (2,829m) loses signal above 2,000m; São Filipe town and the Chã das Caldeiras village inside the caldera have 4G. **Brava, Maio, São Nicolau** — main villages have 4G; less-developed areas may be 3G. The inter-island ferry routes between Praia–Fogo–Brava and Mindelo–Santo Antão drop coverage at sea except near land.
Questions about Cape Verde
Does Flysimio work across all Cape Verde islands?
Yes. CV Telecom and Unitel T+ provide 4G LTE on all 9 inhabited islands. Resort areas on Sal and Boa Vista have excellent signal; Mindelo (São Vicente) and Praia (Santiago) have 5G in central districts. Santo Antão's northern hiking trails and Fogo's volcano summit have reduced signal — download offline topo maps before tackling the ribeiras or the Pico hike.
Which Cape Verde island is best for beaches?
Sal and Boa Vista have the classic powdery white-sand beaches. Santa Maria (Sal) has the liveliest beach strip with restaurants, hotels, kite rental, and watersports. Boa Vista's Praia de Chaves and Santa Mónica are wilder and less developed. For beach-plus-hiking, choose Santiago (Praia area) or Maio. For dramatic black-sand volcanic beaches, head to Fogo.
Which island is best for hiking?
Santo Antão is Cape Verde's hiking capital — the ribeiras (river valleys) of Paúl and Cha de Igreja offer some of the Atlantic's most dramatic trekking, with trails climbing from sea level to 1,000m+ ridgelines. Fogo (Pico do Fogo volcano) is the second great hike. Both require offline GPS — coverage drops in the deep ravines and above 2,000m on Fogo.
Is Cape Verde good for kitesurfing?
Excellent. Sal (Ponta Preta, Santa Maria, Kite Beach) and Boa Vista (Ervatão) are among the world's top kite spots thanks to the Harmattan trade winds blowing November–June. Lessons and equipment rental are available in Santa Maria — Mitu Monteiro's Kite Beach is the most famous launch point.
What is morna music?
Morna is a haunting, melancholic musical genre born in Cape Verde — similar in emotional resonance to Portuguese fado or Argentinian tango. Cesária Évora — "the barefoot diva" born in Mindelo — brought it global fame. UNESCO inscribed morna as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2019. Live morna performances are common in Mindelo bars.
What currency does Cape Verde use?
The Cape Verdean escudo (CVE), pegged to the Euro at roughly 110 CVE = 1 EUR. EUR is widely accepted at hotels and tourist businesses on Sal, Boa Vista, and in Mindelo and Praia. ATMs in Santa Maria, Sal Rei, Praia, and Mindelo dispense escudos with international cards.
Do I need a separate eSIM for each Cape Verde island?
No. One Cape Verde eSIM covers all 9 inhabited islands — Sal, Boa Vista, Santiago, São Vicente, Santo Antão, Fogo, Brava, Maio, and São Nicolau — on CV Telecom's national network. You move freely between islands by inter-island flights (TACV/Bestfly) or ferries without changing eSIMs.
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into your phone. Instead of a physical card, you scan a QR code and your plan installs instantly — no SIM tray needed.
Is my phone eSIM-compatible?
iPhone XS (2018) and newer, most Android flagships from 2020+, and all Samsung Galaxy S21+ devices support eSIM. Check our compatibility page for the full device list.
How do I install the eSIM?
After purchase, we email a QR code. On iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Scan QR Code. On Android: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM. The whole process takes under 60 seconds.
Can I keep my regular SIM while using this eSIM?
Yes. Most phones support dual SIM (physical + eSIM). Keep your home number for calls and SMS — use Flysimio for data abroad. You control which SIM handles what in your phone Settings.
Does the eSIM include a hotspot (tethering)?
Yes, all Flysimio plans include mobile hotspot at no extra charge. Share your data connection with laptops, tablets, or other devices freely.
What happens when my data runs out?
You can top up data from your account dashboard at any time. Top-ups are applied instantly — no need to buy a new eSIM or wait.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. We offer a full refund within 7 days of purchase. Contact contact@flysimio.com with your order number.
How long is the eSIM valid for?
You have 6 months from your purchase date to activate the eSIM. Once activated, the plan validity period (e.g., 7 days, 30 days) begins counting down.
Will the eSIM work at the airport when I land?
Yes — as long as you installed the eSIM before your flight, it activates automatically when your phone connects to a local network on landing. No Wi-Fi required for activation.
What if the QR code doesn't scan?
If the QR code won't scan, you can enter the activation code manually — we include both in the email. You can also contact our 24/7 support team and we'll resend or manually provision your eSIM.
