Georgia's networks
Georgia has three operators: Magti, Silknet (which absorbed Geocell) and Cellfie (formerly Beeline). Magti is generally considered the strongest in the mountains. Coverage in Tbilisi, Batumi and along the main highways is good; the Caucasus valleys are where differences show, and where all three thin out at altitude.
Winter in Georgia
Georgia has quietly become a good-value ski destination, and the season runs roughly December to April.
- Gudauri — the main resort, on the Georgian Military Highway. Good coverage in the resort and along the road.
- Bakuriani and Mestia/Hatsvali — usable in the villages, patchy on the slopes and approaches.
- The Jvari Pass road to Kazbegi — spectacular and genuinely dangerous in winter weather. Coverage drops in sections and the road can close. Check conditions before driving.
- Kazbegi / Stepantsminda — the town is covered. The Gergeti Trinity Church walk above it loses signal quickly.
Coverage by destination
- Tbilisi — strong 4G throughout the old town, Rustaveli and the airport.
- Batumi and the Black Sea coast — good.
- Kakheti wine region (Sighnaghi, Telavi) — solid in towns, thinner between vineyards.
- Svaneti and Ushguli — usable in the villages, unreliable on the roads in. Ushguli is remote; plan offline.
- Tusheti — assume nothing. The road in is seasonal and one of the most dangerous in the country.
How much data do you need?
A week in Tbilisi and Kakheti is 2–3 GB for most travellers. Two weeks adding the mountains lands around 5 GB.
